BARBAN - a picturesque medieval village acropolis in Istria, in the southern part of eastern Istria, 235 inhabitants, situated above the valley of the river Rasa, on the road Pula - Labin - Rijeka, 27 km from Pula and 18 km from Istria.

The center of the Municipality of Barban, who has access to the sea Raškome bay, occupies an area of 100 km2 and has a population of 2802. Besides Barban, in a beautiful green Barban, are also located 73 villages and hamlets.

Barban has a rich history in the 13th century belonged to Pazin fiefdoms, under the rule of the Counts of Gorica. In 1374th authority in Istria take the Habsburgs, and Barban, which comes into possession of the Austrians. Unable to endure more war damage during the war between Austria and Venice (1508.-1516.), Barban the 1516th yr. Venice surrendered.
